Compression and Encryption

Depending on the target format (PDF, MSG, EML, ..) you have several options to compress and/or encrypt emails when saving them to disk as individual files.

1. PDF

When saving emails as PDF files you have the option to encrypt them (1) and set user permissions up. The following options are available for the encryption level:

  • 40-bit
  • 128-bit RC4
  • 128-bit AES
  • 256-bit AES

You can also sign the PDF files with a PFX certificate (2).

When opening the PDF files you will get a password prompt every time that you open a file.

2. MSG, EML, MHT, HTML, TXT

When saving to these formats you have the option to compress them and encrypt them.

Depending on the compressing selected the following options are available:

No Compression

When no compression is selected, you can encrypt the files using the following algorithms:

  • AES
  • Blowfish
  • CAST
  • DES
  • IDEA
  • RC2
  • RC4
  • DEA
  • TripleDES
  • Twofish

When reading the files you need to use the same algorithm and password.

SevenZip Compression

When using SevenZip you have the option to set the compression level between 1 (lowest compression) and 5 (highest compression).

You can optionally encrypt the emails with AES256.

Zip Compression

When using Zip you have the option to set the compression level between 0 (lowest compression) and 6 (highest compression).

You can optionally encrypt the emails with AES256.

Decompression  and Decryption

You can process the compressed/encrypted emails and convert them back to email without having to go one by one.

Select the
Single Files action

  1. Select the root folder where the compressed/encrypted files are located. (1)
  2. If the files are PDF files enter the corresponding password. (2)
  3. If you have used either SevenZip or ZIP for compressing the emails, select ZIP from the drop-down list (3) and enter a password.
  4. If you have not used ZIP or SevenZip and have used no compression with an encryption algorithm, select the algorithm used and the password used. (3)
